The Delavan-Darien boys’ basketball team traveled to Lake Geneva Badger on Dec. 7 and came home with a 57-48 loss. The Comets led early and had a few nice runs, but inconsistency and poor shooting kept them from their first win of the young season.

Kale Rodgers put Badger up 3-0 with a three-pointer to start the game. The Comets took control by scoring the next 11 of 13 points to lead 11-5. Jay T. Greenwald made two three-pointers to lead the way.

“We came out playing good offense and defense,” Coach Chris Hembrook said.

… One positive Hembrook found in the loss was that the 1-3-1 zone defense he recently installed. That kept his team in the game despite the offensive struggles.

“The 1-3-1 is a nice look for this team and I think once they settle in and buy into it, it will look even better,” Hembrook said.

Conversely, Hembrook said his team is no longer happy with moral victories.

“We want to get some Ws,” he said. “We need to work hard and get better.”
