The Elkhorn Area High School girls basketball team routed two opponents last week and improved to 5-0 on the young season.

The Elks held non-conference opponent West Allis Central and Southern Lakes Conference rival Burlington to less then 20 points in the victories.

Elkhorn beat Burlington 66-17 Nov. 20 at Elkhorn and won 66-19 Nov. 27 at home against West Allis Central.

Elkhorn played Westosha Central last night in a SLC game at Paddock Lake and will play Dec. 11 at home against SLC foe Badger.

After the Demons scored the opening basket Elkhorn scored the next 27, and got off to a red-hot start in the first SLC contest of the season for both teams.

Coach Jeff Brown said he thought the Elks’ defensive pressure was the catalyst for the strong start.

Elkhorn held Burlington to single digits in points in each half. The Elks outscored Burlington 41-9 in the first half and 25-8 in the second.

“I really like how we’re sharing the ball right now,” Brown said. “Nobody really cares who is scoring. It’s a really unselfish group.”

Ryley Rand led the Elks with 14 points, and also grabbed five rebounds. Anastasia Grochowski and Maddie Ivey each scored 10 points – Ivey finished with 11 rebounds.

Dillyn Ivey finished with eight rebounds and Payton Christensen finished with nine assists.

As a team the Elks finished with 41 rebounds against the Demons (0-5, 0-1 SLC).

Elkhorn’s defensive dominance against West Allis Central is perhaps more impressive than its performance against Burlington. The Elks limited the Bulldogs to four points in the second half, and outscored Central 32-4. Elkhorn led 34-15 at halftime.

“It was a team effort on defense,” Brown said. “We limited them to one shot and really controlled the boards.”

Brown said the Elks were able to get the ball inside, and did a great job of scoring when the ball was in the paint.

Maddie Ivey led the Elks with 16 points. Grochowski scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Dillyn Ivey added 11 points. Haley Remington scored seven points, and finished with nine rebounds and nine assists.

Jaylah Baker led West Allis Central (0-4) with 10 points.
