They say boys are resilient – able to become strong, healthy and successful after something bad happens. But when the bad continues to invade their hearts and minds, they may need help and find themselves at the Agape Home and School for Boys in Walworth, which is ready to open.
For more than 20 years, Agape House has offered hope and healing for those who have come from hard places. Pam Patterson, who founded Agape House with her husband, Ben, said they are “excited to open the doors to share that same hope for strength and healing to the boys of our community that have come from hard places.”
In an interview earlier this fall, Patterson talked about the calling to start Agape House.
“We were foster parents. We’re Christians. I had started praying and asking God what he wanted me to do next. The older kids we had adopted were graduating. I heard God speak to me and say to start a children’s home,” Patterson said.
She said they came to the initial decision to concentrate on helping girls and women as they began focusing on teenagers and realized they couldn’t put teen boys and girls in the same home.
