The Delavan-Darien High School boys basketball team is looking to work hard and get better than it was last year, said to Coach Chris Hembrook. The team suffered through a winless conference season (2-21 overall) last year but never gave up.

“The kids worked hard and never gave up despite their record,” Hembrook said. “I had opposing coaches compliment us on how hard we played.”

Injuries helped slow the Comets last year. Big man Mateo Morales and quick guard Sam Grover both missed significant time. Both are back and healthy this season.

The Comets lost several key seniors to graduation – Logan Rios, Seth Grabow, Christian Wichman, Dakota Williams and Andy Ruesch. Hembrook said they will all be missed.

This year’s seniors who will be counted on to lead the Comets include Grover, Reese Crull and Sean Wiese. Wiese took last year off from basketball. With just those three seniors on the roster, Hembrook said the team is very young and yet not inexperienced. Several Comets have seen varsity action as sophomores.
