The UWW/Community Optimist Club is preparing to kick off its annual Mitten Tree collection campaign for the holiday season.

Associated Bank, First Citizen’s State Bank, Fort Community Credit Union and Premier Bank will be collection sites in addition to several area churches.

Donations will be accepted from Friday, Nov. 23, through 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Mittens, hats and scarves are the primary needs, but underwear, socks and snow pants (for elementary school kids) also can be donated.

Gift cards also are being accepted. Lanora Heim, director of Pupil Services for the Whitewater Unified School District and coordinator of the Family Emergency Fund, will purchase items as needed.

Smaller sizes are in demand because there are more than 300 children under age 5 in the school district.
