Elkhorn Council opts to push TID project forward

While underground utilities have delayed work on O’Connor Drive and East Commerce Court, the City of Elkhorn Common Council voted 6-0 Monday in favor of pushing forward on the project and complete as much as possible this fall, despite increased costs.

City Engineer Greg Calhoun said an abundance of underground utilities at the intersection of Highway 67 and O’Connor Drive that needed to be relocated have led to changes to the plan and some increased costs for pole arms at that intersection.

Additionally, underground utilities at the intersection of O’Connor Drive and Commerce Court have caused delays to the project as well. Calhoun said the utilities were expected, however, they were not moved according to the schedule the utility companies originally provided, significantly delaying the contractor’s schedule as a result. TDS Telecom was expected to complete utility work at the site on Tuesday.

If the City were to move forward this fall, Calhoun said cost increases would relate to heating and insulating concrete when temperatures reach a certain level, and the cost of asphalt…
