Services today for former fire chief, newspaper owner Coe

The Whitewater Fire Department will host a wake from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday (Nov. 9) and service at 6 p.m. in memory of honorary retired Chief Charles “Tom” Coe.

The ceremonies will be at the fire department, 312 W. Whitewater St.

The department also announced on its Facebook page Sunday night that a reception is scheduled afterward at 841 Brewhouse, 841 E. Milwaukee St., in Whitewater.

In addition to his longtime service to the fire department, Coe was the former owner of the Whitewater Register and Palmyra/Eagle Enterprise.

Coe ran the operation of the Register from 1982 through 2001, when he ended 128 years of family leadership by selling it to Southern Lakes Newspapers.

The family also owned The Enterprise for two stretches totaling nearly 45 years.
