EAHS to honor vets with breakfast, program

Elkhorn Area High School students and staff will honor local veterans in a special program at the school on Nov. 9.

There will be reserved parking in front of the school and veterans can begin arriving at 7:45 a.m. where student volunteers will greet them in the front lobby. Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. and spouses and family members of the veterans are invited to join them.

Following breakfast, at 9:20, a program will be held featuring EAHS alum Ryan Mashack.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree at the US Military Academy at West Point, Mashack became a Platoon Leader of the 2nd Infantry at Camp Hovey in South Korea. In July of 2010 he was promoted to Executive Officer of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood in Texas. In March of 2012 Mashack became the Assistant Operations Officer at Fort Hood and in September of 2013 he was promoted to Troop Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

He is the son of Roger and Jean Mashack, of Elkhorn.
