Man charged in crash that injured passenger

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 26 for an Elkhorn man charged with a drunken driving crash that injured his 24-year-old passenger.

Gregory A. Christian, 22, was charged Oct. 12 in Walworth County Circuit Court with injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle causing great bodily harm and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, second offense.

According to the criminal complaint, Christian crashed his car on County Highway H in the Town of Sugar Creek at about 3:55 a.m. Sept. 19. Christian suffered an injury to his forehead, and a passenger, a 24-year-old man, was found lying on the ground outside the passenger side of the car, according to the complaint.

The passenger was taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville with nasal fractures and fractured vertebrae, the complaint states.

Christian smelled like alcohol, admitted drinking and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Police determined the car was traveling north on Highway H when it drifted onto the right shoulder at a high speed, went into the ditch, hopped over a gravel driveway, continued in the ditch until it reached Lakeshore Drive where it struck the road surface, became airborne, traveled over the roadway, landed in the ditch, spun and came to rest along Highway H, according to the complaint.
