Dementia conference open to all

‘Stepping Stones to Care’ Oct. 26 at Chapel on the Hill

Family caregivers, professionals and members of the greater community are invited to attend the 2018 Walworth County Dementia Conference Oct. 26 at Chapel on the Hill, Lake Geneva.

The conference, hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association and Memory, Mind & Motion LLC, is being offered free of charge.

It will kickoff at 8:15 a.m. with registration and light refreshments and will feature three guest speakers:

  • “From Diagnosis to Research in Alzheimer’s disease: What is New and What is True” by Dr. Piero Antuono, of the Neurology and Biophysics Memory Clinics and Research Center of The Medical College of Wisconsin. It will provide a review of the diagnostic process and discussion on the emerging topics in research of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias;
  • “What’s It Like?” by Lynda Markut, education and family support coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association. She will help attendees understand what the experience is like for those diagnosed with dementia and review issues for those in the early stage of the disease process;
  • “Understanding and Addressing Dementia Related Behaviors” by Dr. Diana Mosnik, a clinical neuropsychologist with Medical Physiology Associates. This session will be a review of common behaviors in dementia care, the challenges of those behaviors and approaches care partners can take to address them.

There will be vendors on site and opportunities to visit with them between the presentations by the guest speakers. At the end of the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback and win door prizes.
