The Delavan-Darien School District made great efforts at bringing homecoming back to what it used to be this year, according to district officials.

District Administrator Jill Sorbie told the School Board on Oct. 8 that in her opinion the event was significantly improved.

Sorbie said a group of high school teachers collaborated to greatly expand the parade and events at the school during the week. This year, the parade had more than 40 entries. Sorbie said interim Police Chief Jim Hanson told her in an email that the homecoming was the best he has seen in 27 years.

Sorbie also said the Delavan Youth Football program hosted a free pig roast between the parade and the football game. David Henriott represented the youth football program and said the pig roast served 370. He said he heard nothing but positive feedback around the community, and the organization plans to do it again next year. Henriott thanked the district for bringing homecoming back and said the community does support the district.

Resident Brenda Sawtelle said the homecoming activities were a joy in the community, and it was awesome that homecoming could be resurrected. Resident Luis Solis said the parade was awesome and he believes in this community.
