Oct. 2 was a good day for the Whitewater High School girls swimming team.

Head coach Gina Foucault was happy with the Whippets’ performances against Platteville-Lancaster and Racine St. Catherine’s-Prairie School.

Foucault said her team’s effort featured several breakout performances during their victories: 139-31 over St. Cat’s and 111-59 against P/L.

“I was very impressed with many races,” Foucault said. “We even had two events where our girls finished 1-2-3 ahead of both teams.”

Leading the way with 1-2-3 finishes were Amber Krebs, Ellie Treder and Maci Parrish in the 500-meter freestyle and Brianna Zimdars, Sophia Fanshaw and Maddie Elworthy in the 100-meter backstroke.

“Brianna Zimdars continues to drop her time in the 100-meter butterfly, securing the third spot all-time on the top 10 list in school history,” Foucault said.

Drops in times came across the board for the Whippets, and Foucault said swimmers dropped three seconds or more at least 15 times.

“We had several girls drop time in the 100-meter freestyle, which is a key event for forming relays,” Foucault said. “I was very impressed, especially with Lexi Hackney, Maddie Elworthy and Lizbeth Rodriguez all hitting 1:05s. This helped us immensely at this meet and will help us as we approach the championship meets.”

Whitewater won six individual and three relay races.

Ella Houwers was a member of the winning 200-medley and 200-freestyle relay teams, while winning the 100-meter free and 100-meter breaststroke.

Morgan Radaj won the 200-meter freestyle while swimming a leg of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Amber Krebs took part in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays while winning the 200-meter individual medley.

Whitewater’s next meet is at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Jefferson.
