Man charged with growing marijuana

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 for a man charged with growing marijuana on his Town of East Troy property.

Robert J. Sanders, 49, was charged Sept. 19 in Walworth County Circuit Court with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, manufacturing or delivering marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, while investigating an in-progress illegal turkey hunt, Department of Natural Resources wardens found nine marijuana plants growing on Sanders’ Town of East Troy property.

Police spoke to Sanders, who said he has grown marijuana for personal use for three years, but officers found the amount of marijuana to be more than is typical for personal use, according to the complaint.

Police searched Sanders’ home and found more than 850 grams of suspected marijuana – nearly 2 pounds – in various places including bedrooms of the home and a shed on the property, according to the complaint. Police also found multiple items of marijuana paraphernalia, a pill of ecstasy, a pill of the pain reliever tramadol and potentially fake pills, the complaint contends.
