The City of Elkhorn Common Council approved a rezone of property purchased by Wilson Farm Meats at its meeting last week.

According to Mayor Howie Reynolds at the Oct. 1 meeting, Wilson Farm Meats bought a small strip of property abutting their current business to the east toward Highway 67 and would like to rezone it to B3 for potential future business use.

The Council approved the rezone 5-0, with Alderman Tom Myrin absent from Monday’s meeting.

In other business, Finance and Judicial Committee Chair Scott McClory informed the Council that the committee has completed its initial 2019 Preliminary Budget review.

McClory said the 2019 budget currently represents an anticipated levy increase of about 2.3 percent, which equates to roughly $9 to $10 on a median value home.

The budget is scheduled to be officially released on Oct. 15, and will then come before the full council for a series of reviews before a final full council vote is taken at some point in mid-November.

The Council also voted on Monday in favor of allowing the City of Elkhorn Police Department to staff a vacant patrolman position.

The position is vacant from former Police Captain Jon Anzalone resigning from the Police Department to take a new position with the Elkhorn Area School District as the community engagement coordinator.

Police Chief Joel Christensen told councilmembers after promoting within the department to fill Anzalone’s position, the patrolman position then opened up. He said the department was looking for authorization to fill the vacancy, which the Council approved 5-0 Monday night.

The Council further voted in favor of a resolution to establish the Elkhorn Wisconsin National Guard Armory as the official temporary polling place within the City of Elkhorn for the Nov. 6 general election.
