Fire at East Troy High causes evacuation

High school students sent home

UPDATE: Students at East Troy High School were dismissed for the day after a fire broke out during a cooking demonstration this morning.

According to a press release from the East Troy Community School District the fire started on a hot plate being used in the demonstration at about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The release states staff was “quickly controlled by school staff” but because of the large amounts of smoke, the high school and East Troy Middle School were evacuated.

The middle school students returned to class but the high schoolers were released while the fire department cleans up and the area is restored.

According to the release, one student was injured and taken to the hospital by their parent.

As of this time, it is unknown if the high school will be open for evening activities and/or classes tomorrow.

Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
