DOROTHY NORTHEY

Dorothy Gladys (Foerster) Northey, 98, of Pleasant Valley, passed away peacefully in her home on Sept. 18, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born on Jan. 7, 1920, on the family farm on Lundt Road, near Rome, to Marie Nelson and Paul Foerster.

Dorothy attended Palmyra High School until 1936, when her father died of pneumonia. Dorothy continued her education at Jefferson High School, where she graduated in 1938.

Dorothy married Lawrence Northey on Oct. 26, 1940, at Pleasant Valley Church, the first wedding in that church. The young couple started farming on the Pollock farm in the Mayview School District near Hebron and lived there for 11 years. In 1953, the family moved to a century-old farm on Hardscrabble Road, near Dousman.

Dorothy was active in the church and community, including Eastern Star. She loved gardening, cooking, history, antique shopping and family vacation trips. She especially loved music, including singing alto in the church choir for most of her adult life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Northey, in 1995; her mother in 1988; and her brother, Robert Foerster, in 1976. She’s survived by three sons and five daughters, James (Janice Isaacson), Sylvia (Robert Baumgartner), Russell (Judy Ross), Carol (Lee Chabot), Nancy (Peter Turner), Marilyn (Richard Dodd), David (Linda Eskra), Jeane (Marc Demske). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.

Her life was blessed by having family so close by, where she could observe the next generations as they unfolded.

The family wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to Rainbow Hospice and Dorothy’s wonderful caregivers. Any donations received will be given to Rainbow Hospice and the Pleasant Valley Church.

The funeral will be at Pleasant Valley Church on Saturday. Visitation will be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Service and luncheon to follow.
