Elkhorn Area High School volleyball coach Justin Diderrich did not mince words regarding his team’s performance Sept. 1 in the New Berlin West Invitational.

“We did not play very well in this tournament,” Diderrich said. “We saw some strong teams and did not respond well.

“We were defeated in every aspect of the game. Thankfully, we were able to salvage a victory in our last match against Hale.”

The Elks lost three of four matches at West. Elkhorn’s lone victory came in its final match of the day when the Elks beat West Allis Hale 2-1.

The Elks won the first set 25-17 and lost the second set 25-22 before winning the final set 19-17.

Morgan Hunter led the Elks with nine kills. Anastasia Grochowski added seven and Dillyn Ivey finished with six.

Madison Every finished with 14 assists and Hannah Koss added eight. Madeline Keller and Madison Ebert each tallied nine digs.

The Elks lost to Kenosha St. Joseph in three sets. Elkhorn won the first set 25-21 and lost the second set 25-22 and third set 15-9.

Ebert led the Elks with eight assists and Hunter led the Elks with seven kills. Keller tallied eight blocks.

West Bend West beat the Elks 25-11, 25-8 and Franklin beat the Elks 25-7, 25-4.

Elkhorn lost to Waterford 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 Aug. 30 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet at Waterford.

“It was a tough loss,” Diderrich said. “We played hard but, in the end, we made too many unforced errors to be able to overcome the consistent offensive attack of Waterford.

“Once we clean up our side of the court we will be able to start turning these losses into wins.”

Grochowski led the Elks with five kills and Hunter added four. Ebert tallied 11 assists and four digs.

Elkhorn played a non-conference dual meet Tuesday at home against Clinton and an SLC dual meet Thursday against Union Grove.

The Elks play in a tournament today at Williams Bay.
