The East Troy High School girls tennis team continues to roll right along.

Playing against visiting Whitewater in a Rock Valley Conference dual meet last week, the Trojans swept the doubles matches en route to a hard-fought, 4-3, victory to improve to 2-0 in conference play and 19-0 overall.

The Whippets certainly provided plenty of competition, East Troy coach Dave Lindow said.

“We knew Whitewater would be a tough match,” he said. “They have four good singles players. We had beat them at No. 1 and No. 4 earlier in the year, but both matches were really close.

“I’m real happy with how the kids competed. Our doubles teams have played really well. They are 53-4 on the year, with our No. 1 and 2 doubles going 19-0 each.”

Earning doubles victories were Mackenzie Lindow and Erin Rice at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0; Allison Slusar/Belle Verbeten at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1; and Emma Scurek/Paige Metcalf at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0. East Troy’s other victory came at No. 2 singles, as Sydney Raddeman won, 6-1, 6-0.

Falling to the Whippets were Jessica Tess at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 2-6; Mikayla Lamping at No. 3 singles, 5-7, 2-6; and Izzy Galluzzo at No. 3, 6-7 (4), 3-6.

Lindow said he was pleased with the work his team put in after the dual.

East Troy returns to its conference dual schedule Thursday against visiting Jefferson, followed by a road contest Tuesday, Sept. 11, at McFarland.

“Our team has set themselves up very nicely, and we will continue to play one point at a time and enjoy this season,” he said. “We had a great couple of practices and really improved after the Whitewater match. I’m looking forward to seeing this team as we head into the last couple weeks of conference play.

“I’m really proud of this team who has put a lot of extra work in. They get up and come in the summer at 7:30 in the morning, as well as take the weekend in the winter and go in and hit. I’m really proud of their dedication to this program and their school.”

Record breakers

The duo of Mackenzie Lindow and Rice put themselves in the program’s record books earlier this season when they won their 91st career match to surpass the former record holder, Laura (Wruck) Tess.

And they’re not even close to done yet.

After their win over Whitewater, the Trojans’ No. 1 doubles team have 97 victories and a 19-0 overall record in 2018.

“They really enjoy playing together and are treasuring each and every match they get together,” Dave Lindow said. “I love the intensity they bring and the warrior-like mentality. They are driven, and I will push them hard and help them achieve their goal of winning a conference championship at No. 1 doubles and helping them win the conference as well.”
