Attempted child enticement reported in Elkhorn

Late yesterday afternoon, there was an attempted child enticement near the middle school in Elkhorn.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Sept. 6, Elkhorn Police received a report that just minutes earlier – at approximately 2:50 p.m., an 11-year-old girl walking in the 500 block of E. First Avenue near Elkhorn Area Middle School when a minivan pulled up next to her.

The man driving the minivan reportedly lowered the window slightly and told the girl her father had been in an accident and also told her to get in the vehicle to go to the hospital.

According to police, the girl did not respond to the man and instead continued walking, at which time the minivan reportedly turned around and was last seen heading east on E. First Avenue toward Highway 11.

The vehicle is described as a black minivan with tinted windows, a bright blue color on the driver’s side tailgate and the license plate depicting a sunrise or sunset.

Anyone with information regarding a minivan matching the description, or with information regarding this incident, is asked to call the Elkhorn Police Department at 262-723-2210 and ask to speak with Detective Kim Bass. Safety reminders

Elkhorn Police also remind parents to review the following “No–Go–Tell” safety tips with their children:

  • Yell “No!” when someone asks a child to approach an unknown vehicle or house. If anyone tries to grab your child, tell him/her to loudly yell, “This person is trying to take me” or “This person is not my mother/father.” Instruct your child to make every effort to escape by walking, running, or pulling away: yelling, kicking, attracting attention and/or otherwise resisting;
  • “Go” or run away;
  • “Tell” a trusted adult who can call police.
