ROBERT L. WARD

Robert L. Ward died peacefully at home on Aug. 16, 2018. Born July 20, 1926 in Chicago, he was the son of Eullalia and Leslie Ward.

He attended the University of Illinois where he met Marilyn O. Mellberg, his beautiful bride and wife of 70 years. He completed his education, earning a B.A. degree, served in the Air Force in Point Barrow, Alaska and returned to marry in Rockford, Ill.

Robert began his career as an accountant in Rockford, Ill. In the early 1960s he relocated from Rockford to Fontana to pursue a career in management with a Walworth-based startup. Robert was civically active as a member of the Fontana Village Board, the Fontana planning and zoning commission and the Big Foot High School Board. Upon retirement, he moved to Sarasota, FL, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Apart from his professional career, Robert was an avid golfer. He enjoyed reading and was active in the Rotary Club and the Meadows Country Club. The last 10 years found him holding court from his favorite chair.

A special thank you and gratitude to Tidewell Hospice and Dr. Scott Elsbree and his office staff for their loving care and support during Robert’s final days.
