When the opportunity to return to Wisconsin as a high school tennis coach presented itself, Adam Westhauser jumped at it.

And here he is.

Westhauser takes over at Big Foot for former head coach Dan Dowden, who is the school’s new principal for 2018-19. Westhauser, a graduate of Hartford High School, currently works at Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn as a tennis professional.

“I am very excited to get into the high school tennis scene,” he said. “I had lot of great high school tennis experiences and want to give these ladies those opportunities as well.”

Through the first week of so, Westhauser said he sees a lot to be excited about when it comes to his new program of 35 girls.

“The outlook is exciting,” he said. “We have a great mix of experienced, returning players, as well as lots of new faces who can bring some depth to our team. We have seen improvement from last year already.”

And Westhauser and his assistant coaches, Dani Lawler and Scott Olson, already have been giving their charges a message on how to accomplish their goals.

“As a team, we have been talking a lot about what ‘grit’ and ‘strength’ means to them,” he said. “Whether that is perseverance, doing hard things, playing to our best shot or maintaining mental focus, there are lots of ways they are all hoping to improve and succeed.”
