Grand opening set for new theater at former Showboat site

Emagine Entertainment Inc., of Troy, Mich., will officially open Emagine Geneva Lakes, its first Wisconsin location, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. Aug. 28.

The ribbon-cutting will be followed by a grand opening charity event that will benefit Lakeland Animal Shelter, Kisses From Keegan and Friends and The Rising Stars Foundation through the Lake Geneva House of Music. Emagine Geneva Lakes is at 2565 Highway 120 in the Town of Lyons in the former Showboat theater and will open to the public at 10 a.m. Aug. 29.

The 35,000-square-foot theatre will feature 646 seats in eight auditoriums. Select auditoriums will be equipped with Christie 4K DLP Digital Cinema projectors and Dolby Atmos immersive sound systems. The theater was renovated with upscale décor and includes a full-service bar with hand-crafted cocktails, a concession menu featuring expanded food choices, powered reclining chairs separated by seven feet of row spacing and a front row of cuddle chairs. All auditoriums will be handicapped-accessible and equipped with assistive devices for seeing- and hearing-impaired guests.

The theater will have a three-season beer garden featuring 12 draft beers, most all of which will come from area craft breweries.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the Emagine movie-going experience to the Geneva Lakes community and to the Town of Lyons, in particular,” said Paul Glantz, Emagine Entertainment chairman. “The town officials have been extraordinarily supportive as we have pursued redevelopment of the former Showboat theatre. Now, as we open the venue, our promise is provide movie-goers with an exemplary experience from the time they walk through the front door.

“From the moment you enter the state-of-the-art entertainment venue, you will discern the difference. We are building movie theatres that compel guests to leave their homes to be entertained.”

The luxury amenities at Emagine Geneva Lakes include:

  • Luxury chairs – All auditoriums at Emagine Geneva Lakes feature luxury powered reclining chairs and Emagine’s proprietary cuddle chairs to ensure optimal guest comfort;
  • Reserved seats – For guest convenience and comfort, Emagine offers 100 percent reserved seating. Guests may purchase tickets online or on Emagine’s app available on Google Play or iOS App Store, and choose their seat for the show. Tickets at Emagine Geneva Lakes range in price from $6 to $10;
  • Stadium seating – All eight auditoriums feature stadium seating to provide the best and most comfortable movie-watching experience. Every seat offers an unobstructed view of the screen;
  • The ultimate in Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound, and several of the auditoriums will be equipped with Christie 4K DLP Digital Cinema projectors;
  • Theatre bar and outdoor beer garden – A full-service bar with hand-crafted cocktails, wine and beer on tap including local selections from Milwaukee Brewing Co., New Glarus’ Spotted Cow and Lake Geneva Brewing will be available with service to each guest’s reserved seat;
  • Handcrafted pizzas – Guests can enjoy all their favorite movie concessions or try one of Emagine’s handcrafted pizzas made on-site in its stone oven;
  • Self-serve Coke freestyle machine – Guests may choose from more than 100 flavors or grab a slushy drink for the same price as a soft drink;
  • Specialty popcorn and cheese curds – Emagine Geneva Lakes features a variety of popcorn – caramel, cheddar, and OlivEpop, as well as Wisconsin cheese curds;
  • Birthday parties and private theatre rentals;
  • All theatres will be handicapped accessible and equipped with hearing-impaired listening devices.

Emagine Geneva Lakes opening weekend features will be “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Incredibles 2,” “Deadpool 2,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Mile 22,”, “A.X.L.,” “The Happytime Murders” and “The Meg.”
