A little more than a year ago, US Packaging/MaxPax moved it main operations to a new facility in Elkhorn and stopped production at its East Troy location.

The loss of the East Troy operation was a blow to the community and employees who didn’t make the move to the Elkhorn plant. US Packaging had considered building its facility in the East Troy Business Park at one point, but decided Elkhorn was a better fit.

“We built a new, state-of-the-art facility with more quality control and didn’t need the East Troy location anymore,” said Jasmin Garcia, US Packaging/MaxPax marketing and production representative.

But times change and the company is reopening the East Troy facility and hiring about 15 to 20 full-time production workers along with filling positions in quality control, warehouse, maintenance and supervisory.

“We’re expanding in Elkhorn and we’re utilizing our warehouse space in East Troy and we’re looking to increase production at the East Troy facility. We’re very busy,” Garcia said.

She added that the growth seen by the company over the past year caught them by surprise.

“We’re certainly expanding faster than we anticipated and have surpassed our estimated growth. We’re thriving now,” Garcia said.

At the moment, the company is getting the equipment back into the East Troy facility and Garcia said they don’t have a solid date for reopening, but it would be “in the very near future.”

“We’re encouraging former employees to contact us,” Garcia said. “We had some great people working her who, unfortunately, weren’t willing to make the commute to Elkhorn and we’d love to have them back.”

US Packaging/MaxPax packages consumables for other companies. The main plant is at 401 E. Morrissey Drive in Elkhorn. The East Troy facility is at 2735 Main St.
