Planes, Trains and Automobiles coming to East Troy

Planes, Trains and Automobiles will be featured at various sites in East Troy on Saturday, Aug. 11. From the airport to the railroad depot to the firehouse to the drive-in, there’s adventure from dawn until dusk.

Family friendly event features multiple locations, activities

East Troy will host its first Planes, Trains and Automobiles event on Saturday, Aug. 11 bringing a fun-filled and action-packed day to town.

The event kicks off with the much-anticipated return of the Friends of the East Troy Airport’s open house and pancake breakfast fly-in from 7 to 11 a.m. featuring an assortment of vintage, homebuilt and certified aircraft.

Attendees can enjoy breakfast among special guest plane appearances, airplane rides and a performance by the Skydive Milwaukee skydivers.

From there attendees can catch a free shuttle to the East Troy Fire Department’s open house featuring demos, games, food and fire truck rides from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., then explore a variety of antique trolleys and interurban coaches at the East Troy Railroad from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and finish the day with vintage and muscle cars at Gus’s Drive-In Cruise Night at 4 p.m.

Free shuttles will be available throughout the day as well as wristbands for discounted trolley rides for Planes, Trains and Automobile attendees.

PLANES

East Troy Municipal Airport

7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

East Troy Airport will host its annual open house and pancake breakfast and fly-in.

Eat breakfast, go for an airplane ride, grab a raffle ticket and watch the Skydive Milwaukee skydivers. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Tickets for breakfast are $8 for adults and $5 for children (8 and younger).

FIRETRUCKS

11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stop by the East Troy Fire Department to see what being a volunteer firefighter entails. Meet local volunteers and check out all the apparatus. Kids will be able to ride in a fire truck. Food will be available for purchase. Games, demonstrations and more going on throughout the day. Activities include:

  • Bounce house and fire truck rides;
  • Police department and other vehicles on display;
  • Car extrication demos at noon and 2 p.m.;
  • Fire extinguisher hands- on demonstrations at 1 and 3 p.m.;
  • CPR demonstrations at 4 p.m.;
  • Blood pressure checks throughout the day; and
  • meat raffles.

TRAINS

East Troy Railroad Museum

Ride the rails of the 111-year-old East Troy Railroad Museum, Wisconsin’s last original electric railroad line.

Passengers can pick up the train at the East Troy Depot, on the hour, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A variety of antique trolleys and interurban coaches that once whisked passengers from major cities to surrounding towns and nearby summer retreats will be featured.

Fares are $12.50 for adults, $10.50 for seniors and $8 for youth 3 to 14. Children younger than 2 ride for free with adult.
