Walworth man charged with stealing, selling kayak

Property caretaker recognized it in photo on Craigslist

An initial appearance was scheduled for July 31 for a Walworth man charged with stealing a kayak and selling it on Craigslist.

Stephen E. Quick, 22, was charged July 24 in Walworth County Circuit Court with burglary of a building or dwelling.

According to the criminal complaint, Quick is believed to have stolen a kayak from a storage barn on Lakeville Road in the Town of Walworth and sold it on Craigslist to a man in Waterford.

The caretaker of the property reported the kayak stolen July 11 and later reported seeing the kayak for sale on Craigslist. The caretaker said he had added a red handle to the kayak, which was visible in the photos posted on Craigslist, and the photos appeared to have been taken inside the barn from which the kayak was stolen, according to the complaint.

Police traced the Craigslist post to Quick, who lived in a home on the same property as the storage barn, the complaint states. Quick admitted taking the kayak and selling it to a man who picked it up at Burger King in Waterford, according to the complaint.
