The construction of a new Meijer store in the City of Delavan took its first official step toward coming to fruition July 13.

Long-rumored to be in the works, the city received a formal application and submittal from Meijer to purchase land on the former Geneva Lakes Kennel Club property from NRB Land LLC.

Frank Guglielmi, senior director of communications for Meijer, confirmed the store has a contract to purchase a site at the southwest corner of East Geneva Street and North Shore Drive. Guglielmi said the company is in the early due-diligence phase for a potential Meijer store. He said once the store goes through that stage, including site planning and attaining all necessary local approvals, the store would make a final decision about moving forward.

Guglielmi said it is too early to provide any specific details about the store’s plans for the Delavan site, but said Meijer stores in Wisconsin have been doing well and the company continues to look for communities throughout the state for future Meijer stores.

“Meijer will be working with the city to get their necessary approvals over the next few months,” said Andy Teegen, manager for NRB.
