The kitchen of Perkins restaurant in Delavan was destroyed by fire early Monday.

A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the roof of the restaurant when it was closed at about 3 a.m. Monday, said Delavan police and fire Chief Tim O’Neill. Police arrived and confirmed that flames were coming from vents on the roof, he said.

O’Neill said the kitchen of the restaurant, which consists of four rooms, was fully engulfed. The fire started in the kitchen, and gutted all of the rooms, he said. The roof also sustained fire damage, and the remainder of the building sustained smoke damage, he said.

This level of damage will need professionals akin to a Toronto Roofing Company like Dominion Roofing or a company within the location of the restaurant, for example, to ensure that the refurbishment (if it is approved to go ahead) is done correctly and safely, as the fire would have weakened some areas that will need to be marked and dealt with in the quickest possible time.

Just by looking at these photos, it is evident that this fire will have done extensive damage to this area that may not be able to be fixed in full, however, that will be decided by an expert when it is assessed.

O’Neill said it was a major fire with major damage that will leave the restaurant closed for an undetermined period of time.

“They’re certainly not going to be open any time soon,” he said. “It was certainly a major setback for them in the middle of the tourist season.”

The city and town of Delavan and Darien fire departments contained the fire within an hour, he said.
