The Delavan-Darien School Board took an early look at responses to a survey given to district families and made available to district residents July 9. Interim Superintendent Jill Sorbie, whose contract was approved in closed session, said 428 responses to the survey have been returned so far.

The survey can still be filled out electronically or on paper. The survey is available on the district website, at the school administration building and at local businesses. The main focus of the survey was to gauge support for future referenda the district might pursue. Sorbie said previously the board seems to be leaning toward an operational referendum in November with a facilities referendum to follow possibly in April.

Of those who have responded to the survey so far, 54 percent do not have any children attending district schools. Respondents supported some referendum proposals included in the survey but not all, and non-recurring proposals received the most support.

Respondents seemed to favor class size limits but were divided on how to pay for them. Support for limits on class sizes came in at 82 percent while 43 percent supported a non-recurring referendum and 30 percent supported a recurring referendum to help reduce class sizes.
