Richard D. Pierson, 87, of Delavan, passed away peacefully at home July 7, 2018.

He was born May 18, 1931, at Walworth County Hospital to Edward and Harriet (Koss) Pierson. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years. He graduated from Delavan High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and received his master’s degree from Purdue University. Richard married Jennie Stevens on Dec. 27, 1954, at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Richard was a teacher at Delavan-Darien High School for 30 years and UW-Whitewater for 33 years. He was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, American Legion Post 95, and the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association.

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jennie; children Steven Pierson, of Delavan, Michael Pierson, of Delavan; Kathleen (Stephen) Newell, of Castle Rock, Colo., Teresa (James) Speri, of Chesapeake, Va., James (Brenda) Pierson, of Oconomowoc, and Joseph (Karen) Pierson, of Whitewater; grandchildren Jennifer (Joseph) Mork, Patrick, Christopher, Andrew and Matthew Pierson, Philip Speri, and Alex and Hillary Newell.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; and a brother, Edward.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 714 E. Walworth Ave. in Delavan. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Harold Johnson Food Pantry.

Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan is assisting the family.
