The Whitewater High School boys basketball team continues to look for its first win of the season, losing twice more this past week.
On Friday, the boys fell to Beloit Turner, and on Tuesday they dropped a 53-37 non-conference game to Oregon.
In the Oregon game, the Whippets trailed just 8-7after one quarter and still were within striking distance at the half – 22-16.
The third quarter was the team’s downfall, as Oregon outscored Whitewater 16-3 in that period.
“The first half we played pretty well,” head coach Dan Gnatzig said. “The third quarter we missed quite a few shots and they went on a 10-1 run.”
The loss dropped the Whippet boys season record to 0-7 overall. They are 0-4 in Rock Valley Conference action.
Vs. Beloit Turner
“We played about as poor as we’ve played all year,” head coach Dan Gnatzig said.
That description was befitting of the 56-36 loss by the Whitewater High School boys basketball team to Beloit Turner in Rock Valley Conference action Friday.
Despite playing on their home court, the Whippets found themselves down by double digits as early as the second quarter of this game.
Whitewater trailed just 13-12 after one quarter, fell behind by double digits in the second quarter, but did rally to within six – 28-22 – at the half.
The third-quarter belonged to Turner, though, as the Whippet boys were outscored 18-8 to trail 46-30 going into the final period.
“They shot the ball well,” Gnatzig said of Turner. “They made 11 three-pointers in the game.”
Gnatzig added that Turner also played good defense.
Both teams did extensive substitution in the fourth quarter.
Joe Michaels was the only Whippet in double figures, tallying 13 points on six field goals and one free throw. Brett Harms added nine.

Next week, Whitewater will host Evansville in another RVC game on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 7:15 p.m.
