Elkhorn couple killed in crash Tuesday

It occurred near Sterlingworth Drive in LaGrange

An Elkhorn couple was killed and a man and teenager were injured in a crash yesterday afternoon in the Town of LaGrange.

The two-car, head-on crash on highways 12 and 67, just south of Sterlingworth Drive, happened at about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators believe a 2011 Kia Forte traveling south on highways 12 and 67 crossed the centerline and struck a red 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix that was traveling north.

The driver of the Kia was identified as Dennis Hinze, 67, of Elkhorn. His passenger was identified as Joy Hinze, 60, also of Elkhorn. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Pontiac was identified as Matthew Kilroy, 40, of Fort Atkinson. His passenger was a 15-year- old female, who was not named in the release. Both occupants of the Pontiac were transported by ambulance to a local hospital and transferred via Flight for Life to an area trauma center.

The crash remains under investigation by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.

Assisting agencies included LaGrange Fire and Rescue, Paratech Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, Troy Center Fire Department, Elkhorn Fire and Rescue, Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office and Flight for Life.
