The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra concert at Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay on April 14 featured performances by Whitewater resident Josh Barrett on trumpet and his son, Nathan Barrett, a 2015 graduate of Whitewater High School, playing trombone.

In addition, Lauren Hayes, a 2010 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School from Whitewater, joined the orchestra playing the harp in a performance of “… this noble company” by Kevin Puts.

The concert’s other musical selections included “Conga del Fuego Nuevo” by Arturo Marquez, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Edward Elgar’s Variations on an Original Theme, popularly known as the “Enigma Variations.” Elgar dedicated his composition “to my friends pictured within.” The work comprises 14 variations on an original theme, each variation being a musical sketch of one of his circle of close friends.

The Brandenburg Concerto showcased the musical talents of Lisa Gauslow (violin); Korrin Bird, Lisa Bradley, Lauren Klement (oboe); Elizabeth Ehlert and Bruce Martin (horn) and Derek Kane (bassoon), joined by Anderson playing the harpsichord.

The final concert of the 2017-18 LGSO season will be on May 19 at Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay at 7:30 p.m.

It will begin with Allisan Barrett, a senior at Whitewater High School, playing horn with the LGSO in the first movement of Horn Concerto No. 1 by Richard Strauss.
Barrett is the winner of the 2017 Young Artist Concerto Competition sponsored by the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra and the recipient of the Rotary Club of Lake Geneva Neal Heffenan Art Scholarship.

The concert will also include performances of Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. This will be the eighth Beethoven symphony performed by the LGSO since 2011 in the Beethoven Project to perform all nine Beethoven symphonies, concluding next season with a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
