Officer Mike Sireno helped fourth grader, Cerisa Kumm pick out items in the Barbie aisle during Genoa City Police Department’s Shop with a Hero Program.

Ten local students were chosen for Genoa City Police & Rescue’s Shop with a Hero Program. Five students were each selected by their teachers. The children were chosen because for positive behavior including showing kindness.

The students met at Wayne’s Pizza in Genoa City for pizza before heading to Walmart in Lake Geneva. Six police

officers and an EMT from Genoa City Bloomfield Rescue shopped with the children. Some of the children bought gifts for other members of their family and some chose items for themself too. Police Dept. staff and officers’ family members volunteered their time to help wrap the gifts.

The program was funded by past donations from businesses in town. Chief Joe Balog said there was enough in the fund from previous years that they did not solicit businesses this year.
