Even before the weekend’s sudden return to winter conditions throughout the state, the spring weather has been less than perfect for high school athletes.

But that didn’t stop the East Troy High School boys and girls track and field teams from putting together stellar individual and team efforts last week.

The girls scored 89 points, while the boys had 76, and both came home from last Tuesday’s Whitewater Quadrangular with overall team titles.

Finishing behind the girls were McFarland with 76.5 points, Whitewater with 69 and Edgerton with 34.5. Whitewater and McFarland were second among the boys with 69 points, followed by Edgerton with 46.

“We were happy with the meet and how the kids ran,” East Troy coach Reid Oldenburg said. “The conditions were less than ideal, but we did not have a single kid back out of an event at the meet. They competed well against some solid talent from the other three teams.”
