OSCAR G. LONG JR.

   Oscar “Oz” G. Long Jr., 65, of Darien, passed away April 14, 2018, with his wife and stepdaughter at his side at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo.

He was born in Elkhorn on May 17, 1952, to Oscar and Hope (Cervantes) Long. He married Patricia on June 11, 1994. He graduated from Big Foot High School in 1971. He worked in construction and lumber sales. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, Beach Boys and entertaining his friends and family at his camper up north. He had a great passion for the Chicago Bears and cheered for the Bears and whoever was playing the Packers. His greatest strengths were his upbeat attitude and his love of life. As his health deteriorated, he often said he was in great shape for the shape he is in.

The family extends its gratitude to multiple health care facilities including UW Hospital in Madison especially all of the staff on the transplant floor, Golden Years in Walworth and MercyHealth in Harvard, Ill. He will be greatly missed by many including the Second Tuesday Club that brought so many old BFHS friends together, all his friends at the Heritage House, his hunting and fishing buddies and all the many friends and relatives that he touched in his life.

Oz is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; and a very special stepdaughter, Renee (Edward) Clair, of Williams Bay. Oz was a devoted and loving grandfather to Emmett, Anna, Maggie and Finn. In addition he is survived by his sisters Valerie (Don) Snyder of Lakeland, Fla., Vicki Long of Elkhorn, Vivian Long of Milwaukee, Venetta Sisson of Largo, Fla., Jackie Nickels, of Spooner, and Donna Kjendlie, of Monroe; and a brother, Vern Long, of Janesville. He is also survived by three very special aunts, Angie Lange, of Kenosha, Mary Covey, of LaCrosse, and Sharon Cervantes, of Delavan, nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Oscar is preceded in death by his mother, Hope; father, Oscar; stepmother, Dorothy Long; brother, Duane Long; and brothers-in-law Bill Nickels, Mike Nickels, Ed Kjendlie. Also, special nephews, Ryan Nickels, Aaron Nickels and Justin Long.

Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Community Church of Fontana, 275 Kinzie Ave. in Fontana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Andrew Parish School.

Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan is assisting the family.
