Elks baseball opens with split

The Elks took the lead in the bottom of the sixth and beat Westosha Central 7-6 April 10 in a Southern Lakes Conference high school baseball game at Elkhorn.

Central returned the favor and beat the Elks 5-4 in walk-of fashion April 12 in a SLC baseball game at Paddock Lake.

The Elks’ schedule for the near future is in considerable flux due to the recent snowfall.

On April 10, Elkhorn led 6-2 before the Falcons forced a tie with three runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth. Chance Larson tripled and scored the winning run on an error.

Elkhorn’s Zach Hunter went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

In the April 12 rematch, the Elks (2-4, 1-1 SLC) took a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the seventh. Central (4-1, 2-1 SLC) won on a two-out single to right field in the bottom of the seventh that scored two runs.

Larson tallied two hits. Hunter pitched and allowed seven hits and struck-out two in 6 2/3 innings.

 

Tennis boys demolish Demons

The Elkhorn Area High School boys tennis team won three of four singles matches and beat Burlington 5-2 April 12 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet at Burlington.

The Elks schedule for the near future is in considerable flux due to the recent snowfall.

The Elks’ Colin Passler at No. 2 singles, Cole Reece at No. 3 singles and Preston Ward at No. 4 singles each won matches.

Elkhorn’s Cory Purcell and Brenden Garcia at No. 2 doubles and Drew Webster and Luke Hindrichs at No. 3 doubles also won.

The Elks opened the 2018 season April 10 at home against Middleton and lost 6-1. Passler beat Gene Kim 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Elks’ only win.

 

Shirk, Keller lead golfers

The Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team posted a team score of 352 and finished sixth April 10 at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant in the first Southern Lakes Conference Major of the season.

The Elks schedule for the near future is in considerable flux due to the recent snowfall.

At Ives Grove, Elkhorn’s Nolan Shirk and Nick Keller each finished at 86 and tied for 11th. Quentin Woyak carded an 88 and finished tied for 12th. Kyle Schoenberg finished at 92 and Liam Ahler finished at 93.

Badger’s Blake Wisdom won the individual title (72). Badger finished first with a team score of 311.

Union Grove finished second (326), Wilmot third (327) and Westosha Central fourth (331). Waterford came in fifth (338), Delavan-Darien seventh (429) and Burlington eighth (477).
