LARRY A. BAKER

Larry Allen Baker, 66, went to his real home on April 5, 2018.

Born April 1, 1952, in Elkhorn, to Jean and James Baker, he was the second oldest of eight children. In 1977, he moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Generosity and kindness defined Larry. Animals and children alike were drawn to his gentle spirit. As a teenager he often surprised his siblings and mother with thoughtful and generous gifts. A loving uncle, he gave freely of his attention. For many years Larry volunteered at the animal shelter providing patience and love to the most difficult dogs, giving one unadoptable “Duke” a forever home. Over the past decade he handcrafted beautiful wooden chairs and tables for countless children in Kootenai County, typically giving them away.

Larry the carpenter gave his life to another carpenter, our Savior Jesus Christ. He was baptized in 2017 surrounded by his family. Despite harrowing health issues, Larry was positive, valiant and at peace, assured that his place in Paradise was waiting for him.

Larry is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Jim (Linda), Scott, Bruce (Kathy) and Barry (Jeannette); sisters, Bonnie (Mark) Potter and Brenda (Helmi) Baker; stepmother, Donna; son, Kevin; nephews, Daniel (Tineke) Murphy, William Baker, Cameron Mowery, Cody Downey and Harrison Baker; niece, Madeline Baker; great-nieces, Kathryn and Emily Murphy, and great-nephew, Samuel Murphy. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother Reno.

The family wishes to thank the Schneidmiller Hospice House staff for their care, and pastors Howard Jones and Pat Lessard.

A private family celebration of Larry’s life will be this summer on a wooded mountain overlooking the lake.

In lieu of flowers please consider honoring Larry’s life by giving your time and attention to those who may be overlooked or by donating to your local animal shelter.
