It took the Whitewater girls soccer team until near the end of regulation to score against visiting Evansville last week in a Rock Valley Conference match.

The goal came as junior Carmen Kraayvanger was fouled in the goal box. She was successful on the penalty kick.

“Kraayvanger, who missed last season due to an injury, played extremely well and came through on the game-wining penalty kick,” Whitewater coach Dan McCrea said after the April 5 match.

It was a back-and forth contest throughout the match, but the Whippets defended their side of the field against the Blue Devils. Senior Alexa DuClos and freshman Cora Linos took turns defending the goalpost and kept Evansville off the board. McCrea said the two keepers played “admirably.”
