ACHILLES ARESTIDES JR.

Achilles (“Archie,” “Steve”) Arestides Jr. died March 8, 2018. He was born in Manhattan, New York, on Sept. 24, 1938, to the late Achilles and Maria (Manikatou) Arestides.

He moved to Milwaukee in 1947, attending Hayes Elementary. He graduated from Pulaski High School in January 1956.

He entered the U.S. Army is 1957, becoming a radio teletype operator for the 541st Signal Supply Company, stationed in Germany until 1960. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee upon his return, earning a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in social studies and education.

He began teaching at Muskego in 1966, where he met his future wife, and finished his career there 33 years later.

He married Karen on June 15 and 16, 1968 (yes, married twice).

From 1983 to 1996 he and Karen owned the Wine Seller in East Troy.

Throughout his life, he was a voracious reader of history and loved traveling and great food. He was fluent in current events and enjoyed discussing and arguing politics as a proud liberal. In recent years he was fortunate to reconnect with former veterans of the UW-M Veterans Club, founded when he was an undergraduate. Most important to him was his family.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Karen Margaret Campion Arestides; children, Alexander, Amy (Jason) Marty and Peter (Ruth); grandchildren, Braden, Abigail, Justin, Katrina, Cedric, Sylvie and Arthur; brother, Nicholas (Sharon); in-laws, Ken Zurfluh, Mary Campion, Judith and Bernard Cleary, Kirt and Jean Campion.

Services were March 24 at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, Mukwonago.
