Some athletes from the Whitewater boys and girls track team didn’t compete in the Parker Varsity Invite at New Berlin West on March 24 due to a head start on this week’s spring break from school, according to head coach John Houwers. Freshmen and first-time members of the track team got some varsity experience in the second and final indoor meet of the year.

The Whippets had three athletes who won field events. Ali Ketterhagen won the girls high jump with a height of 4 feet 6 inches. Sashi Popke took home first place in the boys pole vault, clearing 13-0 and Abby Grosinske had her debut in the girls shot put and did well.

“Abby Grosinske threw the shot for the first time,” Houwers said. “She won with a throw of 27-11.5. She tied (Samantha Schultz of New Berlin West) but had a better second throw to win on the tiebreaker.”

Will Leibbrand leaped 18-1 in the long jump and Joe Gmur’s best height in the high jump was 5-8. Both finished third overall. Grosinske was also third in the 55-meter dash (8.35).
