Elkhorn man gets 15 years in overdose death

A Janesville man was sentenced Jan. 10 to 15 years in prison for the Jan. 6, 2017, overdose death of Mathew Brown in Elkhorn.

Jason A. Wedell, 35, was convicted of supplying the heroin that caused Brown’s death.

As part of a plea deal, Wedell pleaded guilty Oct. 19 to first-degree reckless homicide and delivering heroin. In exchange, two other felony offenses – another count of manufacturing or delivering heroin and possession with intent to deliver heroin against him were dismissed. He faced up to 55 years in prison and $150,000 in fines.

He was sentenced Jan. 10 to 10 years in prison and eight years extended supervision on the reckless homicide conviction and five years in prison and four years extended supervision on the conviction for delivering heroin.
