UWW women’s basketball team wins WIAC Tournament

The Warhawks women’s basketball team followed up winning the regular season Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Conference title with winning the WIAC tournament last Saturday. The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin- Whitewater women’s basketball team defeated 23rd-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon, and earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second straight season.
UW-Whitewater, which clinched its first-ever sweep of the WIAC regular season and tournament championships, will begin its 17th appearance in the national tournament, including its 10th in the last 11 years.
UW-Whitewater (24-3) and UW-Oshkosh recorded 10 lead changes throughout last Saturday’s game at the Kachel Gymnasium. The Warhawks shot 51 percent from the floor and sank six three-pointers. The Titans had two 3-pointers.
The Warhawks will be the home team as the Midwest bracket of the NCAA Division 3 Tournament for women’s basketball takes place at the Kachel Gymnasium.
The Warhawks is scheduled to play UW-Superior at 7 p.m. It will follow a game scheduled for 5 p.m. between rose-Hulman and Gustavus Adolphus.
If the Warhawks beat UW-Superior, they will face the winner of Friday’s 5 p.m. game in round two. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
