DONALD A. WALLIN

Donald A. Wallin, 83, of Janesville, passed away peacefully at Rock Haven Nursing Home in Janesville, Feb. 20, 2018.

He was born July 19, 1934, in Minneapolis, to Fergus and Jane (Olson) Wallin. He spent his early life in Fond du Lac and graduated from Fond du Lac High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years.

He traveled internationally as a buyer of men’s clothing for Sears Roebuck and Co. for 35 years.

He was married to his first wife, Barbara Wallin, for 42 years, and together they had five children.

On June 10, 2000, he married the love of his life, Margaret (Florek) Bednar-Wallin. They enjoyed taking river cruises with a group of friends known as “the Back of the Blue Bus Buddies” and spending time in their dream home in Bella Vista, Ark. He also enjoyed golf and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Whitewater.

Don is survived by his wife, Margaret “Margie” Bednar-Wallin; children Kimberly Thornley, of Ashburn, Va., Kevin (Lisette) Wallin, of Morton Grove, Ill., Kathleen (Patrick) Malone, of West Salem, Kurtis (Fanny) Wallin, of Iselin, N.J. and Kenneth Wallin, of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepdaughters, Kim (Dwayne) Berry, of Pleasant Prairie, and Brenda (Dylan), of Leonardo, N.J.; brother, Robert Wallin of Edina, Minn,; brothers-in-law Robert and Lawrence Florek, both of Milwaukee; his buddy, John Buch, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and many nieces nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Klawitter.

A service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First English Lutheran Church, 401 Main St., Whitewater. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to First English Lutheran Church or Special Olympics would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and hospice personnel at Mercy Health.
