If the Big Foot girls basketball team had any designs on a run to the Rock Valley Conference title, last week’s home contest with Jefferson definitely fell into the “must-win” category.

That’s just what the Chiefs did – and now there is a four-team logjam at the top of the standings.

Big Foot jumped out to a 15-point lead and held off a late Jefferson run to earn a hard-fought 58-52 victory Jan. 25. That win, coupled with an easy 62-31 victory Tuesday at Beloit Turner, moved the Chiefs to 12-5 overall and 11-2 in the RVC, one game behind 12-1 Jefferson.

“That was a great game,” Big Foot coach Rick Schoenbeck said. “We jumped on them early. We wanted it bad. We got those 50-50 balls early, we created some good situations and had them on their heels a little bit. I think our schemes kept them off balance.
