Public event offered at Yerkes Observatory

Yerkes Observatory, 373 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay, will host a public observing night on the south lawn from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Throughout the year, Yerkes holds public observing events in which people can enjoy constellations, observe celestial objects through lawn telescopes, and learn through hands-on astronomy activities. These “star parties” are held regardless of weather. At the Feb. 10 event, visitors will learn about the lives of stars, and take in the sights of Yerkes’ dark sky.

Children are welcome to attend but must be accompanied by adults at all times and pets are not allowed. The fee for the event (cash at the door) is $5 per person for children 7 and older and adults while children 6 and younger are free.

Space is limited and pre-registration through the Yerkes Outreach website, yerkesoutreach.org is required.
