Inventory at Citgo stations involved in the Casey’s General Store acquisition will be updated as the sale is closed in the coming week. Mike Frawley of Frawley Oil confirmed Friday that most of the details in the Casey’s deal had been finalized.
“They will be starting to close stores to update PSOs and inventory,” Frawley said.
Casey’s representatives declined to comment.
The Westsider, 1353 W. Main St., and Eastsider, 650 E. Milwaukee St., the two Citgo stations in Whitewater, have been confirmed by both Frawley and Casey’s to be a part of the deal, as well as the Market Street Citgo, 109 W. Market Street, Elkhorn.
“The two stores in Whitewater, the Westsider and the Eastsider, will be closed on Tuesday,” Frawley said. “The Elkhorn store will be closed Thursday the 8th for inventory.
“Changing out the PSOs can take some time,” Frawley added. “If everything goes smoothly, the stores will only be closed for a day.”
Casey’s and Frawley have been working on a deal, and the Whitewater Common Council approved the transfer of a Class A beer and liquor license from Frawley Oil to Casey’s at its meeting in January.
“The transfer of liquor licenses is a pretty strong indication that things are going in the right direction,” Bill Walljasper, the chief financial officer of Casey’s General Store, said in January.
In January, Frawley and Casey’s representatives also said the deal included Citgo stations in Jefferson and Fort Atkinson. Frawley said the Delavan store was not going to be included in the deal.
News of the pending deal came as Casey’s has expanded aggressively in southeastern Wisconsin. The Ankeny, Iowa-based chain of convenience stores recently added a store in Waterford and is planning one in Darien. The organization has proposed stores in Delavan, Burlington and Rochester. Casey’s has also looked at property along Highway 11 in Union Grove.
“Our business model is to locate our locations in small communities of 5,000 or less,” Walljasper said in January. “We want to serve those communities that may be underserved.”
