CHARLES J. WILGING

      Charles J. Wilging, 78, of Washington State, formerly of Milwaukee, died unexpectedly Jan. 14, 2018, at his son’s home in Elkhorn.

He was born Oct. 27, 1939, in Milwaukee, to Charles, Sr. and Verona Wilging. Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 as a track vehicle mechanic and decoration as a Rifle M-1 expert. He was united in marriage to Sharon Rae North on July 1, 1962, in Milwaukee. He was preceded in death of his wife of 43 years on Dec. 5, 2005. Charles was a proud officer of the Milwaukee Police Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was one of the members of the first Milwaukee Police Department S.W.A.T. Team. Charles was an avid fishermen and fan of the Green Bay Packers. He loved the north woods of Wisconsin.

Charles was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family including his five children, Michael (Renee) Wilging of Elkhorn, Joseph Wilging of Bradenton, Fla., Lori Ann Woods of Milwaukee, Timothy Wilging of Grand Coulee, Wa. and Christina (Todd) Fletcher of Omak, Wa.; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Edward Wilging, Tyler, Tori Hogan-Wilging, Brian, Justin Woods, Nikki Jernigan, Ashley Nickell, Sofia and Josie; four great-grandchildren, Evany, Piers, Harper and Finn Jernigan; two sisters, Carolyn (Jack) Gier of Arkansas and Ginny Mooney of Germantown; one brother, Ronald (Marie) Wilging of Arkansas and by several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, time and place to be announced.
