Coach: Trojans not allowed to play as physical as Cardinals

The East Troy High School girls basketball team found itself in the midst of a physical battle last Friday night at Brodhead.

And, while the Trojans hung in there the best they could – it was the Cardinals who had just a bit more left in the tank at the end.

Brodhead held a six-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 57-44 Rock Valley Conference victory that dropped the Trojans to 3-8 overall and 1-8 in the RVC.

“I feel that we were not allowed to play as physical as they were with us,” East Troy coach Maurya Lomen said. “Don’t get me wrong, I love the physicality of the game. (Brodhead) coach (Brian) Kammerer does a real nice job of getting his kids to work hard and be aggressive.”

Lomen said she was frustrated with the foul discrepancy in the game.

“I watched the game twice and re-watched certain plays and there was not equality in the fouls that were being called,” she said. “We didn’t lose because of the officials, but in my opinion, Brodhead was clearly a bigger, more physical team, yet we led in the foul count? It is understandably frustrating to my girls, and it is an injustice. We consistently work hard and deserve equality.”
