Hunter Johnson finished second among sophomores and helped the Elkhorn Area High School boys swim team to a strong performance Dec. 27 in the Boylan Bash at Boylan High School in Rockford, Ill.

The Boylan Bash is split by class, and team scores are not reported. Competitors earned medals through sixth place.

Johnson won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.56 seconds and won the 50 freestyle (23.56). Johnson finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.02) and second in the 100 freestyle (52.57).

“Hunter is a hard worker, and he’s pretty versatile,” Elks coach Jamie Richardson said. “He can swim a variety of different events. He’s a tough competitor.”

The Elks competed Jan. 4 at home in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet against Burlington Co-op and Plattevillle/Lancaster. Results will appear next week.
