The Whippets were one of 43 teams from Wisconsin and Illinois that invaded the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus to participate in the 39th annual Mid States Wrestling Championship. However, Whitewater did not have favorable results.
The Whippets finished in 34th place with 54.5 team points. Only three Whitewater wrestlers made it to the second day of the tournament. Sophomore Jaden Salmieri at 132 pounds and seniors Jimmy DuVal, who wrestled at 182, and Tyler Sheffield, who wrestled at 195 lost close matches during the tournament that put them in unfamiliar territory.
Salmieri (16-7) finished 10th overall in the tournament that took place Dec. 28 and 29. He won the first two matches but lost the next two. Salmieri won his second consolation match before being pinned in the 10th place match.
